NBA Q&A: Kevin Durant

Q: You're going into Year 3 of your five-year deal. Where do you feel like you stand right now in terms of where you are in this current contract?

A: I'm just taking it a day at a time. They believed in me when they gave me this contract that five years down the line, three years down the line, I'll be a person that can help carry the franchise. So I appreciate them for believing in me, because they could have easily just thought ‘He had that one good year. You never know what's going to happen.' So they put their trust in me, owners, GMs, teammates, that I could help carry this organization. So I like where I'm at right now. I'm just trying to take it a day at a time. We'll see what happens. I don't know, really, what to think. I don't know what happens next, or after this year what happens next summer. I don't know. So I'm just trying to take it a day at a time and keep getting better.

One thing we haven't talked to you about is your decisions with real estate. You've purchased some property in the area and sold another. Is there anything you can tell us about what that all means?

I mean, nothing really. Nothing, to be honest. Like I said, I'm always moving so I guess I like the feel of it being new I guess. But every time I move it was about location, how close it is to the gym, how close it is to the practice facility, how big the house is. And with my mom and my brother starting to move out of the house I started to downsize a little bit and get something a little bit more homey just for myself. But living in almost every part of the city I feel like has helped me get more acquainted with the people, directions and just seeing parts of the city I never thought I would be around. So living downtown now is quite an experience because I see so many people and see so many different things. I don't feel secluded. When I was living out in Edmond, in the Gaillardia area, I felt so far away from the people. But now I feel right in the mix so it feels cool.

Your mother recently spoke out about abuse she experienced as a youth. What did the courage she showed by doing that mean to you?

Well, I'm proud of her. It takes courage to tell people what you've been through, knowing that people may judge and people my give their own opinions on it all. But she doesn't care about that. She just wants to raise awareness and try to help them avoid those situations. She's a strong, strong woman. She's done so much for our family. But for her to come out and spread her story around the country, a lot of people can read that, around the world almost with the way the Internet is. Just the way people slander and judge and always are negative, she builds up into a positive. That's what strong women do.
