New York Knicks C Tyson Chandler has been shooting at least 600 jump shots a day to add an extra dimension to his game. As the Knicks were eliminated in last season's playoffs at the hands of the Indiana Pacers many felt that Tyson Chandler was exposed by the more talented Roy Hibbert. During the series Chandler averaged 6 points and 6 rebounds per game but he was affected by neck injury as well as strep throat. Recently Chandler spoke of the improvements that he had to make and still seemingly had Hibbert on his mind.
“I’m an athlete, I’ve excelled defensively, there’s no reason I can’t excel offensively,” Chandler said. “It’s a mindset. Defensively, my mindset is always, ‘I’m going to lock down every single possession.’ Now it has to be ‘OK, I’m going to be aggressive every possession [on offense].’
“I vowed to myself I would never let that happen again....I would never let my team down and be in that situation again......I’ve got to make sure that doesn’t happen.....It’s not about him (Hibbert). It’s about me. My job is to stop whoever is in front of me and outplay them, no matter who it is. I’ve got to look at it like motivation, like I got my ass kicked. So next time I’m not going to let that happen.’’

ReplyDeleteI still don't understand why it takes 5-10+ years for players to start working on their weaknesses.
ReplyDeleteBecause for 10yrs he was told, "we will pay big bucks for your defense, so master that." NBA is not a friendly league that gives you opportunity to work on your weakness. Only ther top players get that chance.
DeleteHiber is a better offensive player than chandller.
