Indiana Pacers' G George Hill missed this week's Team USA Mini Camp due to a scheduling conflict. Hill had been selected to participate in the 4 day event that concluded Thursday but missed the tryouts due to his own basketball camp for kids that took place this past Monday and Wednesday. Hill recently spoke about missing the camp and if that may cause him to miss out on another opportunity to participate in future Team USA events.
You always want to do what’s right and make the right decisions,” Hill said. “When it came to either trying to do the (national team minicamp) and letting kids down, my heart is always where the kids are and impacting the community and the future of the kids…..I just knew that it was a great opportunity for me to even be invited there, but I always thought it was also a big opportunity for me to keep my word to these kids and continue to be who I am as a person.”
“I’m sure it’ll affect it.....I’m sure there’s going to be people that don’t agree with my decision but also there’s going to be people that do agree…...If the opportunity is there again, and it’s there for me to take, then I’ll try to do the best I can to take it. I feel like in my heart I made the right decision to keep my word to these kids and that’s what matters most to me.”
Spoken like a true professional! I agree with him 100%, those kids needed to come first, and people need to understand that. Hill made a commitment and stuck to it -- he needs to be rewarded for that.
