Former Brooklyn Nets head coach P.J. Carlesimo took to the airwaves Tuesday to talk about his parting with the Nets. Carlesimo took over for the fired Avery Johnson mid season and guided the franchise to the number 4 seed in the Eastern Conference before being let go.
“It’s the way it is,” Carlesimo said on WFAN. “I’m disappointed. I’m not a little disappointed, I’m tremendously disappointed, just because I feel strongly about what a great situation this was and how different it can be, given a training camp, given a staff, given the opportunities the next guy is going to get, that’s all.”
“We met Sunday at noon, and Billy was very candid and they wanted to move in a different direction,” Carlesimo said. “They want somebody that philosophically was more in line with how he viewed the roster and the way they wanted it run.“[It’s] disappointing, because I thought we did a good job, but when you own a team and you’re the GM, you’ve got to get the guy you believe is the right guy.”
