Magic Johnson questions new coach Mike D'Antoni

We all know the history that NBA Legend Magic Johnson has with the Lakers as a player and one time minority owner. While speaking at Dodger Stadium earlier today, Johnson went in-depth with what's wrong with current Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni and his system.
"I'm not down on him yet as a coach," "You can't run with these guys," he said. "There's one guy who can get up and down the court and that's Kobe (Bryant). You've got to take that ball inside. That's how you win games."
On Pau Gasol
"His game is catch it on the low block and face his man," the former Lakers star said. "The first question should've been, `Where do you like it because that's where I'm going to give it to you....We can score points but the defense is breaking down," he said. "We have to correct our defense. Every night guys have to come with passion and urgency."
Magic is on the money with these comments. Lakers have been atrocious with Gasol on the bench and D'Antoni needs to put'his big boy pants on' and bend his system to what the Lakers have (I.e. two excellent 7 footers, one dominant sg, a pick and roll pg, good outside shooting, and no one who can either run or get above the rim).
ReplyDeleteLike I said lakers will get swept by OKC in da 1st round and Miami will repeat. Lakers have no bench and no shooters. Mitch needs to be fired. My Knicks are gonna beat da lakers ass next. Easy win. Ha ha.
ReplyDeleteDude digusted me lastnite when he got mad saying they worked a half a hour on d, like thats enough? He said he dont get paid enough to figure out why players not giving enough effort...wtf??? Dont know if it was a joke or not but i didnt appreciate it. Still 60 games left enough time to adjust but silly me thinkin d'antoni would already have that mind set comin n, with or without nash. Lakers management atleast give the man sum more depth on the bench so he dont run the starters 39 minutes a nite...fuck!!
ReplyDeleteThis is what I've been saying fRom the jump off. His system don't fit their roster. Shud've hired Phil. I agree it's crazy how dantoni is disrespecting gasol. It blows my mind. He's 7 ft tall n u want him running up n down the court like a shooting guard then telling u to play wing on offense. Smh terrible. Like magic said u gotta adapt ur system to the players u have.
