NBA legend Charles Barkley who spent half of his career playing for the 76ers understands the pressure that Andrew Bynum will potentially face since he was brought to the Sixers to be "the guy". In a telephone interview with the Inquirer, Barkley spoke in detail of what awaits Bynum.
"I love the Bynum trade for the Sixers....But none of that other stuff matters if he's not dominating. If he's not getting double-teamed, those three-point shooters are not going to be getting those wide-open threes.....The Sixers are asking him to do something that he has never done before, and it's a tremendous responsibility," Barkley said. "It all comes down to him being the man for this team every single night. That's something he has never done before. He has to stay healthy and come out and dominate. The jury is still out on that....You have seen it happen to other guys who are good players. Joe Johnson is a very good player....but when he got traded from Phoenix to Atlanta he wasn't the same guy. You see it with other guys. Amar'e Stoudemire saw it in New York. He got there and eventually he found out that the difference between being a good player and being the man every night is like night and day."

Barkley said it perfectly and I agree its a difference between being a good player and being the man every night.
ReplyDeleteYes sir, bynum exposed! I know hes skilled enough but dont know if hes quick enough on his feet to react to double teams.
DeleteBarkley sayin it right,,bynum gonna learn tto bein the man there becuz u never know how far u can go till u try
ReplyDeleteI think hell be just fine. Hes skilled enough to put up the points hes not gonna be sekfish becus hes used to sharing the ball playing in la i think the only adjustment is gonna be gettinf used to the pressure and bringing it every night defensively...hes bringing a culture of winning to phili he has no choice becus thats what hes used to so im curious to see what tupe of leader he is
ReplyDeleteI dont questioned byums talent. Its his heart n maturity that I question. N u can't teach those things. So we are gonna see what he's really made of. If what we seen in la was just a misunderstanding. Cuz one thing I know philly fans r not gonna put up with his half ass effort every other night. They gonna b in his ass if he does
ReplyDeleteUr right u cant teach those things i agree 100% but it can rub off on u and u can acquire it over time from playing with people like kobe so were about to see how much bynun has takin in over the years because i brlieve that u cant play with someone lukea kobe or lbj or mj, magic, bird, isiah, reggie milker etc.. or any of thkse guys who have that "IT" factor and fhey not rub off o you in sime way shape form or fashion a part of me jus feels like andrew wasnt as happy in la and he definately wkuld never meet his full potential as long as hes playing wit kobe n pau as a 3rd option and it began to show on the court at times
ReplyDeleteI agree with u. But u wud think that it wudve rubbed off on him already. He's been with kobe his whole career. If he didn't get it by now im not sure he ever will. N im sure he wasn't happy in la but that's part of being professional. Regardless of how he felt he had a job to do n he didn't do it consistently. He let his emotions get the best of him. N that character flaw is what im worried about. Eitherway There's gonna b no excuses now.
ReplyDeleteI dont think he liked mike brown at all. I think thats the only thing he didnt like n la. Besides that bynum jusy lazy as fuck but like yak said fans n Philly and collins aint gonna let him get away wit that shit
