Turiaf desired to play close to grandmother

Wanting to play on a championship contending team and also playing near his grandmother was the deciding factors for center Ronny Turiaf choosing to play for the Miami Heat. His grandmother is a resident of Martinique and she's never watched him play in an NBA game live.
“I told my dad to tell her that last night, now she has no excuse not to come. It was definitely a positive factor in the decision. She’s seen me play when I went back home to the Caribbean to do charity events, but she’s never actually seen me play in the NBA. So, everything happens for a reason. If I have to go pick her up, I’ll go pick her up, put her on a plane and she’s going to come to watch her grandson play.”
